MEMORIAL CEREMONY FOR EMPLOYEES WHO DIED IN THE LINE OF DUTY

Memorial Ceremony for Employees Who Died in the Line of Duty

1er November 2025 – Correctional Service Canada

The Montreal Branch once again participated in the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) Quebec Region’s annual memorial service for employees who died in the line of duty. The event was held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Saint-Vincent-Paul Church in Laval, near the CSC’s Correctional Learning and Development Centre, the Federal Training Centre, and the old St-Vincent-de-Paul Penitentiary.

This annual commemoration, which takes place on the first Saturday in November, also brings together several police forces (Montreal, Laval, Royal Canadian Mounted Police) in recognition of the deceased officers, as well as members of their families.

This ceremony, which takes place as part of Remembrance Day celebrations, brings together nearly 150 people each year. It is a tangible way for Correctional Service Canada in the Quebec region, its staff, retirees, and partners to officially pay tribute to their colleagues who lost their lives in the line of duty. The liturgy of the word, the solemn reading of the names of the deceased, and the procession to the cenotaph, accompanied by the sound of RCMP bagpipes and drums, provided a moment of respect and emotion. Everyone walked to the cenotaph at the Correctional Learning and Development Center, which was erected in memory of employees who died in the line of duty.

We believe it is important to honor the memory of these correctional officers who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our society. Our colleagues Jacques Lambert, Branch President, and Camille de Varennes, Branch Administrator and retired Correctional Services member, represented our National Association at this important commemorative ceremony. Federal Retirees will always remember these colleagues who died in the line of duty and will continue to salute their courage, dedication, and commitment with gratitude and respect.
