WHAT IS NATIONAL SENIORS DAY?
On October 1, Canada celebrates National Seniors Day, which in 2025 coincides with the United Nations International Day of Older Persons. Established in 2010 under the Seniors Act, the first National Day was held on October 1, 2011.
This is an opportunity for Canadians to:
– recognize the valuable contribution of seniors in our homes, communities, and workplaces;
– to reaffirm that every Canadian deserves to age with dignity and independence, and to have access to affordable, quality health care when and where they need it.
By fighting ageism, we are building a culture of respect that benefits all generations.
